Gundam Evolution To Shut Down in November

Written by:

The free-to-play FPS Gundam Evolution, which features mobile suits from various Gundam series in a hero shooter framework, will cease its service on November 29 (PST).

Despite the game’s impending end, BANDAI NAMCO Online Inc. will still release Gundam Evolution‘s Season 6 content on October 25 (PDT), which includes a new mobile suit and two maps. Sales of the game’s EVO Coins and EC Pod Limited, as well as updates for EC Pods, CAP Pods, and Ticket Pods, will cease on July 26 at 6 PM PDT.

In a statement posted on the Gundam Evolution website, executive producer Kazuya Maruyama said, “We wanted to create a title that brought FPS fans and Gundam fans together. We challenged ourselves to create an authentic Gundam FPS game that could be played globally. Unfortunately, we have determined that it is no longer possible for us to provide a service that satisfies our players.

“We want to express our gratitude to everyone who has played the game and supported us to this point. At the same time, we would like to sincerely apologize to our fans and players.”

Gundam Evolution launched on Steam in September 2022 and came to Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, and PS5 in November of the same year. On Steam, the game initially received positive user reviews and a decently sized player count (SteamDB calculates its peak concurrent player count to be 56,911). However, it has since fallen to a “mixed” rating and a continually dwindling playerbase that currently numbers less than a thousand. A common refrain of the negative reviews is the game’s abrasive monetization, although there are also criticisms of its balance and servers.
